The largest Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) public hunting lands in Kansas can be found surrounding Milford Lake.
Hunters will find a variety of game, including pheasant, quail, whitetail deer, turkey and waterfowl. In fact, the area has been named as one of the Top 5 public hunting locations for whitetail deer.
Some areas have very easy access, while others require more effort.
The majority of the lands are located on the west side of Milford Lake, though you will also discover public hunting lands at the north end of Milford Lake.
You can get a FREE Milford Lake map, which has the hunting lands marked, by sending an email to the Geary County CVB or calling 800.528.2489.
Though the Milford Lake area has plenty of public hunting lands, don't forget about the 1,000,000 acres of private lands open to hunters, for free! Get a Walk-In Hunting Atlas, which shows you all of the private farms and ranches you can hunt. Once again, call the CVB for your free guide.
