  1. Brotherhood in Action-Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr

    January 23, 2020, 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM @ Dorothy Bramlage Public Library

    BROTHERHOOD IN ACTION-CELEBRATING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. “We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools”. –MLK, Jr. We invite you to celebrate the life and message of Dr. King as we embark on our first Brotherhood in Action day. Stop by during the entire month of January to add your dream for Junction City in the Community Dream Box. The dreams submitted will be on display and entered to win prizes. This event is co-sponsored by the Junction City-Geary County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee All day: Stop in the Adult Reference area to honor Dr. King through black out poetry, making a button, creating a peace dove, trivia, and more. Random prizes will be given throughout the day. 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Let us come together as brothers to recognize Dr. King. Join us for entertainment, the announcement of the Art and Writing Contest winners, and a Community Pasta Feed.

  2. Eagle Day at Milford Lake

    January 25, 2020, 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM @ Milford Nature Center

    When winter freezes the northern lakes and rivers, Bald Eagles frequent Kansas' reservoirs and wide rivers. They often can be found at open-water stretches below dams and lochs in their search for fish. View live Eagles and see various programs on Raptors of Kansas at the Milford Nature Center. Take a guided bus tour and view the Bald Eagles as they soar above Milford Lake or watch them as they sit in the tall Cottonwood trees along the lake's shore. Learn about nesting Eagles in Kansas and watch the Live Eagle program. Visit the Kids' Tent with activities and crafts for the kids. Free popcorn and hot chocolate will also be available. Bus tours for viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the last tour departing at 2:00 p.m. from the Milford Nature Center parking lot. There is no cost to attend, free entrance to Milford State Park for all vehicles, Eagle buses are free of charge.

    If you missed the first one, here's your opportunity! Guided Owl Prowl Night Hike with owl information provided. Meet at the Milford State Park office. Pre-register required and limited to 35 participants. You can pre-register by calling the Milford State Park office at 785.238.3014. Family friendly, be sure to wear winter hiking gear! There is no cost other than a State Park vehicle permit.
